The boys & their toys at the Ashington ShowThe boys & their toys at the Ashington Show

Probably like most of you, we grew up on a diet of movies and TV shows like American Graffiti, Vanishing Point, Two Lane Blacktop, Hot Rod, The California Kid, Starsky & Hutch, The Dukes of Hazard and a whole host of other programmes that had American cars as a feature in them. These cars were bigger, louder, brasher and had that elusive “it” quality about them that our home grown cars just seemed to lack. Fast forward a few years and marriage, kids and a mortgage pushed all thoughts of running a Yank into the background and it became a nostalgic memory.

Both of us have owned and enjoyed various British and European cars over many years, but there was still something missing. Then whilst Richard was trawling through ebay he saw a Torino and thought I'll just go and have a look. Of course a look wasn't enough so the Torino came back with him and that was it! William went and got the Camaro and we haven’t stopped smiling since.

When you own one of these fantastic machines you’re always looking for an excuse to take them out and rumble around. With the weather often on the damper side of dry (raining) for the once a month meet and the sunny days few and far between, the UK needed a virtual showground - a place the weather couldn't spoil. A place to view other owners rides and pick their brains over how they achieved a particular look, stance, who they use and would recommend for work. After all modifying or restoring a Yank is an expensive business. You’ve got all that knowledge in your head, how about sharing it with others who also share your passion for American cars, whether it’s a Rod, Rat, Custom, Muscle or Stock ride?
