Prom Night to the Rescue
I missed the last "Coffee n Chips" night in Brighton because it fell on the same day as my anniversary. This in itself wouldn't have been too much of a problem if I hadn't been AWOL in my ride on so many occasions prior (the worst being home at 2am on a Sunday when I should have been home at 2pm the previous day! - still I did take in ACE Cafe & Chelsea cruise)

Fuel at an all time high - time to protest?
The rise and fall of the price per litre at the pumps, erodes at the motorist like the tidal waters of the sea on the beach.
The price edges up higher than previously experienced, but after a short while they drop back a little which avoids any confrontation. Again after a short while they go up again often higher than the previously highest price, but this time when they settle back to the previously highest price it almost seems acceptable because it is less than the new highest price.

More of the same in 2011?
We are nearly at the close of another year, and whilst many thoughts have turned to Christmas, family and alcohol (but not necessarily in that order) I think 2010 can be hailed as a great year in many ways for our favourite pass time.
I can honestly say that every event that I cruzed down to was more packed and had a higher attendance than in previous years, with many new faces and many previously unseen or new rides.
The fact that we have had a couple of previous years with average at best weather, no doubt influenced things a little, because this year was pretty good for weather and that I think, made everyone more determined to get out there and enjoy it in the best way possible – in their rides!

Pontiac - the entertainer
I know that many manufacturers will lay claim to being the popular choice on the Big Screen or on our TV's, and product placement is as big now as it has ever been, but has another manufacturer thrilled us as regularly as the Pontiac brand?
SPOTTED !
This page will feature the sort of cars that do it for me. There'll be an assortment of styles but they all have one thing in common. They made me stop in my tracks and go, WOW ! So keep checking the page to see if anything new has been added.

Even the Viper can't Dodge its demise
Introduced in 1992 the Dodge Viper was an instant hit offerring a traditional sports car layout of front engine, rear wheel drive and with awsome power. The Viper offered performance stats that challenged many other sports cars costing considerably more money and developed a racing pedigree that then translated over to newer models.

Cash for Clunkers – is the whole idea a clunker?
It’s probably just me, but I think the whole scheme is a crock. The question is what exactly is being addressed by this scheme, because no matter which angle I approach it from it doesn’t stack.

Good Times from Bad Times
The latter part of 2008 brought financial difficulties for all of us with the global economy on its knees and the UK loosing that enviable two dollars to the pound. There was serious talk of doom and gloom and so going into 2009 I wondered how much effect it would have on the American and Rod & Custom car scene.
70's Time Warp Hotrod
Spotted this hotrod at the Fathers Day meet at Old Barn Nursery and it took me straight back to the days of eagerly awaiting the monthly edition of Custom Car when I was a lad (nothing to do with the scantily clad beauty draped over the middle page your honour, I swear). The van was originally rodded in the early seventies and was a fetching shade of green then dayglo orange ! Barry Padwick got this 1947 ex GPO Morris Z8 van from a bloke in the West country who was using it as his job van and to advertise his plastering business (with that V8 he must have got around pretty quick). Needless to say it was a bit of a state when Barry got it.
Jim T's 1968 Camaro
Spotted at a soggy Lazy Sunday was Jim T's '68 Pro Toured Camaro. Jim mini tubbed the car himself and squeezed 10" wide rims on the back.
The car has a 350 SBC with a tri carb set up and can defend itself with NOS if it feels threatened. Other mods are, Hotchkis rear suspension, 4" fibreglass cowl induction hood, shaved handles and a custom interior.
1967 Camaro "Boom Boom Shake The Room"
As a fellow Camaro owner I couldn't resist showing you this outrageous '67. Once again I couldn't locate the owner but saw and heard the car as it left the showground. Surrey Muscle have a reputation for having mega horsepower cars in their club. This '67 certainly didn't look or sound like it was letting the side down, awesome !
The death knoll chimes for Pontiac
It's no secret that GM are going through a particularly tough time and are set to cut around 21,000 jobs this year as it focuses on the June deadline for the revamp of its business.
Have you considered sourcing from Canada?
The dizzy heights of $2 : £1 are now long gone and whilst we were languishing close to $1 : £1 at the early part of the year, the pound is currently sitting around $1.45 : £1. If you are like me you will still be cursing for not having stretched your budget and purchasing those parts last year!
But there is hope. The Canadian Dollar offers us a better rate of exchange than the US dollar (at the time of writing $1.78 : £1) and they can supply American cars and parts.
There is no doubt you will have to search a little harder but when you find what your looking for the reward will be that your budget will stretch a little further.
Paul's 1958 Chevy Impala Convertible
Another outstanding car I saw at Wheelsday was this stunning '58 Impala convertible. It had arrived from Nebraska 19 years ago where the harsh weather had taken it's toll and Paul got it as a complete basket case. After taking ownership what can only be described as a single minded obsession to restore the car took place. The car has been fitted with a 327 small block chevy and turbo 350 transmission from a Corvette (Paul still has the original block and trans). Rayvern Hydraulics hadn't started to make their own air ride kit back then, so Paul had to make his own system, sourcing all the parts he needed from the States. All the work on the Impala was carried out by Paul with the exception of the paint job. The car is sprayed in a shade called Cay Coral which was an original colour option back in the '50s. When I asked Paul if he could do one thing to the car, what would it be ? Without hesitation he said, strip it down and respray it because the paint job isn't good enough. Man, it looked perfect to me, for some people, like Paul, the standards they set themselves is very high. I can only look on with admiration and envy.
The Fast & Furious: New Model, Original Parts - Directed by Justin Lin.
The Fast and Furious franchise has gone from strength to strength using that always popular mix of suped up cars and girls, and the latest offering doesn't disapoint.
This film provides something for all car enthusiasts with the spectrum of cars used for the movie including Muscle Cars, Tuners and Exotics, with the well known Camaro "Big Red" also making an appearance.

THE DEVILS CAR
I saw this car lurking near the exit of the showground but couldn't track down the owner to get details. As I was taking the photos I heard a small boy behind me ask his Dad what it was ? his Dad replied "that son, is the Devils car".
Steve's 1969 Plymouth Road Runner
SPOTTED AT WHEELS DAY 2009 - Steve drove his car in the rain to be at Wheels Day and he's enjoying this Road Runner that has taken him nearly 22 years to get to what you see here. This is a beautifully restored car which is now better than when it left the factory. Steve says there are still things to sort out, all I'll say is, perfection can become an obsession :-)

Any colour you like as long as its NOT black!
That's the latest coming from California on new cars and how best to save energy. The thinking behind it is simple and although I hate to admit it, does make sense.

Protecting your ride!
So you've spent the money on your ride and it runs as you want it, you've carried out the mods that you wanted, and show time is coming so you want it to look its best. Easy just go and buy some polish and a wax wash and that'll be fine right?
Well, we've all got our opinions on the best polish etc to use, but I just used Zymol on my ride and it is without question the best product I've ever used - without question. Its not cheap there's no denying that, but I figured I've spent a good deal of money on her so far and she deserves the best.

Gran Torino - directed by Clint Eastwood
directed by Clint Eastwood
Well I never expected to see the car too much and I was right in my expectation level. That said it is a great film, with all that you'd expect from Eastwood.
With elements more associated with "Dirty Harry" he plays a recently widowed and bad tempered Korean War Veteran, who takes exception to the attempted theft of his much cared for Torino by the boy next door as part of his initiation into a local gang.

LED Replacement Bulbs
360 degree LED bulbI have just ordered some LED bulbs to replace the rear stop/tail and indicator standard bulbs. They say they're brighter, will last the life of the car (33 years so far!) plus they only use 1 watt of power.
