If you haven't already checked out the A.C.E website (Association of Car Enthusiasts) you should as they are there to protect our favourite pastime.
This website is a platform for vehicle based legislative issues, which can also provide a rallying point if required - and now is one of those times.
Established in 2004 in response to the DVLA Consultation Document that raised doubts over the future of modified cars and the rebuilding of classics, and whether you were aware of it or not, they have been representing us ever since.
ACE now has a voice on the DVLA consultation list and is looking to establish its presence on the VOSA list.
Its only when you look through some of the latest news items on their site that you realise how much legislation is being changed behind the scenes and potentially slipping through without challenge!
Which brings me to the point of this article.
According to the American Import Agent Association the free trade agreement is being voted on by the EU in February and part of that that would specifically ban the import of American vehicles to the EU along with any Grey Imports.
The reason being is that despite there having been a perfectly acceptable assessment of vehicles being imported to England up to now, they want every EU country to choose to have individual vehicle assessment and in doing so believes it best to have one overall standard for all.
The problem with this is that FIA (Federation Internationale de l'Automobile) is pushing for the harmonised approach with all vehicle lighting being "E" approved, which obviously stops all American and Grey imports - to make it worse they have little or no opposition.
If the flow of import stops it will ultimately have devastating impact on our favourite pastime and ultimately lead to increased prices for parts etc as the vehicle parc decreases.
