The 25th Worthing American, Rod & Custom
Worthing 2010This July marked the 25th Worthing American, Rod & Custom show in the Steyne on the front at Worthing. This shows is great because there is something for everyone.
For a start its FREE, which always helps the numbers, but petrol heads are happy because of all the machinery around them. The kids are happy because they can go onto the beach or the funfair as well as looking at the cars, and the better halves can go into the town if they want and have a look round the shops – in theory a perfect balance!
Over the last few years this show has grown in numbers considerably, and this year was no exception. In fact you could argue that it was too well attended.

The Steyne is not large and probably should take more than 250 – 270 cars, so when you get considerably more than that trying to squeeze their way in, some have to drive away disappointed.
One of the pre-requisites is to pre-register, this is supposed to assure you of a space, but there did appear to be a reasonable number of cars on site that hadn't pre-registered this year and some would argue whether some pre-registered cars qualified as an American, Rod or Custom – in which case why were they taking up valuable space!

Sounds like a moan I know, and I don't mean it to, but some genuine classics a great customs missed out, and I'm sure the visitors to the show would rather be enjoying the them over a dozen PT Cruisers!
This said, congratulations to Kevin Denston who has been involved in the making of this show for the last 15 years, and main organiser for the last 5 years. Kevin has worked tirelessly every year to bring this show to life and what's more has ensured that it has always been a FREE show throughout, despite the additional pressures brought in by Health & Safety, the local council and Police.

The 25th show was also special because it marked Kevins last show, as he is handing the torch over to Mark Ashman of the NASC. No doubt Mark has some ideas to bring to the show that will improve the experience of exhibitors, traders and public alike – the challenge will be doing this with charging for the experience.
If you have any comments about the show (hopefully constructive), Kevin would appreciate you visiting their website and signing their guest book, which can be found under the link “contact us”.
If you haven't done so already check out the video, with photos in the gallery.
