The Surrey Street Rodders Wheels Day 2009
Ask the average person in the street what the Easter Bank Holiday is famous for and the common answer will be rain and traffic jams!
But ask any petrol head with motor oil running through their veins and the answer will not be inclement weather or traffic jams, you will be told without hesitation - The Surrey Street Rodders Wheels Day.
Yes its likely there will be bad weather and undoubtedly traffic jams will be experienced at some point, but that doesn’t even venture onto the radar when the first big show of the year arrives, and as if to test our metal 2009 wasn’t any different.
On the plus side it was mainly light rain and a couple of times I’m sure it stopped for a minute or so before making up for it with a heavier outburst. Anyone approaching Rushmore after 10.00am was sure to take an hour or so to cover the last mile to the show, but that is all part of the experience – with the glimpse of something special up ahead being the preview to the show.
One of the great features of this show is the large bowl in which it is held. As you enter you can look down and identify the layout and location of the vehicles, trade stands, refreshments etc.
There was a fantastic display of cars, trucks and bikes with some having travelled a considerable distance to attend the event. The number of spectators coming to see them was equally impressive, and for those who had to come without their ride, the trade stands and autojumble provided the opportunity to source that much needed part.
Every year the quality and standard of finish achieved on the vehicles displayed increases, with many arguably presented in a better state than when they left the factory! Some examples can be seen by viewing the “Spotted” section on Black Jack’s Page.
Congratulations must go to The Surrey Street Rodders whose dedication and hard work are key to making Wheels Day the unquestionable success that it is.
So there you go the season has started, and if you are happy to travel the opportunities to get out in your ride will be coming thick and fast.
In the meantime to check out “Wheels Day 2009” in the gallery – is your ride in there?
If it is let us know - it could become a featured ride!
