Seaford 09 - report

Part way through the week following the Cranleigh Show, I got what appeared to be a cryptic message from William regarding the Seaford Show.

“Sunday’s on, we’ll meet, then go to another meet to then join the meet before going to the show – leave about 10ish”

What?

After clarification this roughly translated to: William and I would meet up then hook up with several friends from the Cranleigh cruiz at another lay-by (this time the A27), to then go to the official meeting point at Newhaven and then roll down to the show in Seaford with them – simples!

The day started brightly and we set off enjoying a good blast down towards the coast in beautiful sunny weather. Part way down there was a member of the Sussex Traffic Police on the bridge complete with hairdryer; fortunately we were both within the speed limit. There was however, only one thing to do in this situation - give the throttle a good squeeze as we went under the bridge loosening the reigns on a few of those horses!

With time on our side made our way towards the first rendezvous.

Good news! The lay-by on the A27 was bigger than the one we had all squeezed into on the A24 and so parked up with ease and waited for any further arrivals. We expected to see Guss in his yellow Chevy pick-up with a friend, but by the time we had to move on there were no other arrivals.Seaford 09 - Getting ready to cruise down!Seaford 09 - Getting ready to cruise down!

With a light flow of traffic we were all able to join the A27 in a more leisurely fashion than we had the A24 a week previous, and as we drew level with the petrol station on the left there was Guss with David in his Buick ready behind! So we all enjoyed another short run down to the official meeting point at Newhaven.

Fortunately Maccy D’s had a large car park for all the bikes and a long, long side road for all the cars. By the time everyone had arrived there must have been 50 cars all ready to cruiz into Seaford nose to tail and arrive on mass at the show.

So the bikes all went first and then it was “Gentlemen start your engines!”. As we entered the town everyone was waving and enjoying the spectacle, with the roads closed as we neared the event we enjoyed a smooth run through, and I couldn’t help thinking that this is what it must be like in the States when they have a car fest in a town over a weekend and just cruiz around – absolutely fantastic!

The show was an enjoyable affair, and being by the seafront the kids were amused throughout the day. Plenty of visitors and a good friendly atmosphere – for a first show they must have been very pleased with the turnout, and it will certainly go down as one of the more memorable events for me this year.

As the organiser of the kar part of this show , could I please thank everybody for turning up on the day !
I only spoke to the Mayor 13/14 days (!) before the event about the idea of having some classic american cars and hot rods along to join the 147 motorbikes attending Seafords first ever Bike-Fest .
With live bands , FREE entry and parking ,and superb weather , Seaford really Rumbled !
All monies raised went to the Mayors local charities .
